Ballajura Community College is very proud of Andy Chung, a Year 8 student who has done exceptionally well in the Australian Mathematics Trust Awards, scoring in the top .3% of students in Australia.

Andy was invited to a formal ceremony at Perth Modern School on November 22, which celebrated the achievements of talented mathematics students across the State and formally recognised their outstanding performances.

Andy’s results put him in the top three in his year group at BCC and earned him a prize and certificate for ‘Best in School’.

Not surprisingly, Andy said he liked mathematics.

“I like that it is mentally challenging,” he said. “It is something you need to work out right at that moment.”

He said the Australian Mathematics Trust test had about 30 questions and they were ‘a bit hard’.

“When I got the award it meant that I understood a lot of mathematics concepts and that I’m doing really well,” he said. “I was very happy to get the award.”
