This year’s National Science Week theme, Decoding the Universe, has been celebrated this week with plenty of curiosity, creativity, and hands-on learning at BCC.
Throughout the week, students have taken part in a range of in-class competitions and challenges. The winning students from each class will be rewarded on Friday with a special Virtual Reality session led by one of our ECU scholars, Alicia Gregg – a passionate tech whizz! With Alicia’s guidance, they will be able to take a breathtaking “first-hand” trip into space.
Meanwhile, on Tuesday a group of year 9 ACE girls attended the Quantum Girls Physics Excursion at Joseph Banks Secondary College. They enjoyed a series of fun and interactive activities exploring different aspects of quantum physics and were inspired by the keynote presentation from Marie Curie Lecturer 2025, Dr Danielle Holmes (UNSW), on the Wonders of the Quantum World. Special thanks to Physics ATAR teacher, Melissa Keenan, for organising and supervising this engaging half-day event.

The excitement doesn’t end there — this Friday we’re looking forward to a night under the stars at our Stargazing Event on the BCC oval. The session will be run by Earthside Astronomy and kindly donated by one of their directors, and supportive BCC parent, Mark Davies. If the skies are clear, it’s sure to be a spectacular evening! Keep an eye out in next week’s newsletter for photos from the event.
And don’t forget — the Lower School Scitech Excursion is coming up on 15th September for selected students. It’s another fantastic opportunity to explore science in action!
